LoTI Thoughts...

So I took the LoTI survey and it ranked me at a 4, which is what I expected. Definitely experienced with technology, but always room for improvement. I'm not currently teaching, so during the survey I went off my experience during my student teaching last spring. I want to try and take this survey again when I eventually have my own classroom and see what I could improve on then.

As for rating my webpage examples on the LoTI scale, I quickly see that the ones I first chose were maybe level 2's or 3's...so I'm now trying to find more challenging student-based learning webpages, not so much teacher-based. I think that's the key here. I'm so glad were doing this webpage examples activity, it really has opened my mind to what is good information technology for our classrooms and what is not. Before this course I have never heard of the LoTI scale, but now I can't help but try and rate every webpage I find!

  1. Wonderful to see that your LoTi level was a 4. I was a little surprised that mine was a 3, although my use of it is a 7. Yes, this search does help us to evaluate how we use technology in the classroom. I like your goal of locating more challenging student-based learning webpages/lessons. I look forward to seeing your examples. Linda

  2. I'm glad you integrated a lot of technology into your student teaching experience... Sometimes pre-service teachers don't really get to do that much because their supervising teachers aren't big fans of technology integration. It is nice to see that you had a supervising teacher that supported your use of technology. Level 4 is nothing to scoff at... I would venture to guess that most k-12 teachers in Georgia are at lower levels than that!

  3. I agree with the activity. Because of my specific topic, I think I was able to find some good examples only because they apply to real world problems. I think one of the main issues with teachers not implementing lessons with a LoTI above 3 or 4a is their access to technology. If you can only go to the lab once a week, how can you regularly implement it in your classroom. That's where I'd like schools to allow other digital resources such as phones. Not as user friendly as a computer, but certainly capable of finding information.

And I agree with Linda. A LoTi or 4 is perfectly fine! I'm going to continue to think of ways to move those 4 activities to the 5 or 6 levels.

  4. I too am impressed by your 4! I had a lowly little 2. Regarding looking for higher-LoTi level lesson plans, I am with you. Most of what I found simply used the internet for research, but very little technology integration otherwise. I finally found a really good website--do a Google search for "Digital Wish lesson plans" and a wonderful site should come up. There are many different plans to choose from, and people have the opportunity to rate them after they've done them. I really like some of the plans I found, and passed the website along to my colleagues.

  5. ChanMin: Lara, I like your plan to take the LoTI survey again after you practice technology integration in your classroom. As you said, there is always "room for improvement." Thriving to improve yourself and student learning makes myself reflect on what I am pursuing. Thanks for your inspiring blog!
